Women's Track Finishes Ninth at New England Championship

    HANOVER, N.H. -- Providence College junior Gladys Ganiel of Harrington, Maine captured the 3,000 meter title at the New England Outdoor Track Championship on May 16 at Hanover, N.H. For Ganiel it marked her first New England title. With her first-place finish, Ganiel earned All-New England honors and helped the Friars finish ninth of 25 team with 29 points.

    Sophomore Dana Ostrander also ran a strong race for PC, finishing third (10:11.20) behind Ganiel in the 3,000 meters. In the 1,500 meters, the Friars were led by junior Sarah Dupre of Kingston, Ontario who placed second in a time of 4:27.84. Dupre was followed by freshmen Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. (fourth - 4:29.19) and Stephanie O'Reilly of Wicklow, Ireland (sixth - 4:32.58).

    The Friars will return to action on May 22-24 at the ECAC Championship at Fairfax, Va.
