Women's Track After Day 1 At Penn Relays

PENN RELAYS, Philadelphia, Pa. - April 25, 2002

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Providence College junior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track Championship at the first day of competition at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. on Thursday, April 25.

Freeburg finished second in the college women's championship division in the javelin throw with a career-best toss of 50.02 meters.

Freshman Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) won the 3,000 meter college championship race in a time of 9:39.75. Sophomore Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) also ran the 3,000 and finished 14th (10:00.23).

Sophomore Emily Tallen (Kingston, Ontario) placed seventh in the Olympic development 5,000 meters in a time of 17:06.05 and qualified for the ECAC Championship.

The Friars will return to action on Saturday, April 27 at the Penn Relays with a women's team in the 4 x 800 meter relay.
