Women's Track Finishes Fourth Of Six At Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's track team scored 54 points and finished fourth of six teams at Brown University in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, April 15. Freshman Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) and sophomore Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.) all earned a first-place finish for the Friars. O'Shea won the 800 meters in a time of 2:12.92 and Shearman placed first in the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:48.24. Cappello won the 1,500 meters (4:32.94) and was the first of four Friars to finish in the top five positions in the race. Sophomore Kathryn Casserly of Galway, Ireland (second, 4:34.14), junior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. (third, 4:35.06) and senior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (fifth, 4:44.06) all finished strong in the 1,500 meters. TEAM RESULTS: 1. Rhode Island 167.33, 2. Brown 165.67, 3. UMass. 92, 4. Providence 54, 5. Northeastern 40, 6. Southern Connecticut 29.
