Women's Track Competes At Brown Invitational On April 12

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WOMEN'S TRACK at Brown Invitational at Brown University April 12, 2003

Providence, R.I. -- The Providence College women's track team scored 54 points and finished sixth of nine teams at the Brown Invitational at Brown University in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, April 12.

The Friars were led by senior Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.), freshman Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand), sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) and senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) who all earned a first-place finish. Cappello captured the 5,000 meters in a time of 17:00.07 and qualified for the ECAC Championship. Crombie won the 800 meters (2:14.8) and Cullen earned a first place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:25.91. With her time of 4:25.91, Cullen qualified for NCAA Championship. McGettigan won the steeplechase in a time of 10:28.34.

Senior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) also qualified for the NCAA Championship as she finished third in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:28.30.

The Providence women's team will return to action on April 20 at the Husky Invitational.
