Women's Track Competes At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Providence College women's track team competed at the Raleigh Relays at NC State in Raleigh, N.C. on March 30-31. The Friars were led by sophomore Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) who won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:42.36 and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship. In the 5,000 meters, senior Francine Darroch (Cambridge, Ontario) placed 13th (16:57.97) and junior Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished 18th (17:06.56). Sophomore Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) placed 14th (2:15.38) in the 800 meters and junior Kathryn Casserly (Galway, Ireland) was 15th (4:36.91) in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) placed 11th in the javelin throw with a toss of 43.68 meters.
