Men's And Women's Outdoor Track Competes At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Providence College men's and women's outdoor track teams competed at the Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. On the women's side, senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) led the Friars with a first-place finish in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:24.72. Also in the 1,500 meter run, sophomore Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) placed third (4:26.86) and freshman Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) finished 11th (4:33.25). In the 5,000 meter run, sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) finished second with a time of 16:23.32, followed by graduate student Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) who finished the event 12th in a time of 16:53.56. Senior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) placed 10th in the javelin throw (41.12m). Also, Providence won the 4 x 1,500 relay in a time of 18:15.43. On the men's side, senior Adam Sutton (Preston, England) led the Friars with a third-place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:10.29. Graduate student Paul Reilly (Loughrea, Ireland) finished sixth (14:19.89) in the 5,000 meter run followed by senior Tyler McCabe (Mystic, Conn.) who finished 16th (14:31.87). Sophomore Patrick Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) placed fourth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 30:28.97. Junior Jamie Carmichael (Windsor, Vt.) finished sixth (9:15.45) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The women's team will return to action at the University of Connecticut Invitational on Friday, April 4 in Storrs, Conn. The men's team will participate in the University of Connecticut Invitational on Saturday, April 5 in Storrs.
