Men's and Women's Track Compete at the Raleigh Relays - March 26-27, 2004

Friar men capture the 4 x 1,500 meter relays

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Providence College men's and women's outdoor track teams each competed at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. on March 26-27.

On the men's side, the Friar 4 x 1,500 meter relay team of freshman Darren Brown (Spring, Texas), junior Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland), sophomore Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) and junior Dylan Wykes (Kingston, Ontario) finished first in a time of 15:26.67. On Sunday, Fagan ran the 1,500 meters and placed ninth in a time of 3:53.02. In the 5,000 meters, junior Pat Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) placed fifth in a time of 14:19.95. Reale also ran a strong race in the 800 meters, finishing fourth in a time of 1:51.33.

The women's team was led by the its 4 x 1,500 meter relay squad, which finished second behind a squad of former Friar runners. The PC women's team of junior Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland), junior Kim Smith (Auckland, New Zealand), sophomore Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) and sophomore Jane Nalder (Wellington, New Zealand) finished second in a time of 17:51.08. Byrne also ran the 800 meters and finished fifth in a time of 2:10.81. Friar senior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) placed second in javelin with a top throw of 48.28 meters.
