FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Providence College men's and women's track teams each competed on the final day at the NCAA Indoor Track Championship in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday, March 13.

Friar junior Kim Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) set her second NCAA record in as many days as she won the 3,000 meter title in a time of 8:49.18, which eclipsed the previous collegiate record of 8:53.54 set by Patti Sue Plummer of Stanford in 1983. On Friday, Smith captured the 5,000 meter title in a collegiate record time of 15:14.18. Smith is the first Friar to ever capture two NCAA titles at the same meet. She joins former Friar Amy Rudolph as just the second PC runner to win two NCAA titles. Smith has now earned three All-America honors this year.

With Smith's two first place finishes, the Friar women's team finished ninth with 20 points. It marks the second time ever that Providence has finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Indoor Championship. Also, it is the team's highest finish since the 1994 squad placed tied for fourth.

On the men's side, junior Dylan Wykes (Kingston, Ontario) placed 15th in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:26.80. The Friar men's squad placed tied for 66th.
