BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College women's indoor track team finished eighth of 48 teams at the ECAC Championships on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9, 2003.

The Friar distance medley relay team of senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland), sophomores Roisin Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) and Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) finished first in a time of 11:13.92 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament, which will take place on March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark. The time of 11:13.92 beat the NCAA standard (11:19.00) by more than five seconds.

Freshman Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) captured the mile run in a time of 4:47.79 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA's. In the 1,000-meter run, senior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) took second-place in a time of 2:51.10. Graduate student Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:34.43 and provisionally qualify for the NCAA's.

The Friars return to action on March 14-15 at the NCAA Championship.
