Indoor Track Competes at Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. -

The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed at  the Columbia Final Chance Qualifier in New York, N.Y. on March 1-2. Three Friars qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in May.

On the women’s side, junior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) competed in the 800-meter run. McCarthy finished third in her heat and 12th overall with a time of 2:12.41. Her time qualifies her for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.

From the men’s squad, freshmen Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) and Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) ran in the mile.  Dixon finished fourth in a time of 4:05.68 and Oakley finished sixth with a time of 4:06.01.  Both Friars qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.  Classmate Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) finished 16th in the 800-meters with a time of 1:54.64.
