SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Providence College senior Marie McMahon (Ennistymon,
Ireland) captured the 5,000 and 3,000 meter titles at the BIG EAST Indoor Track
Championship on Feb. 21-22 and led the Friars to an eighth-place finish with 51
points.
With the two wins, McMahon earned the BIG EAST Championship Outstanding
Track Performer honor.
McMahon, a nine-time All-American who won the 1996 NCAA
Indoor 5,000 meter title, won the 5,000 at the BIG EAST in a time of 16:23.71.
She captured the 3,000 on Sunday in a time of 9:24.16. For McMahon, it marked
her first BIG EAST Indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meter titles.
Also in the 5,000
meters, PC junior Sarah Dupre (Kingston, Ontario) placed second and earned
All-BIG EAST honors.
Following McMahon in the 3,000 were PC freshman Rachel
Hixson of Media, Pa. (fourth, 9:41.84) and sophomore Dana Ostrander of Ballston
Lake, N.Y. (fifth, 9:50.08).
In the Mile, Providence senior Maria McCambridge
(Dublin, Ireland) placed second in a time of 4:46.76.
