Men's and Women's Track Complete Day 1 Of BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Providence College men's and women's track teams each competed at the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday, February 21. After the first day of competition for the Friars, the men's squad had scored 14 points and was in sixth place and the women's team had scored one point and was in 14th place. On the men's side, senior Adam Sutton (Preston, England) led the Friars as he captured the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:19.40. Also in the 5,000, junior Pat Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) placed fifth (14:45.96) and sophomore Joe Dionne (Oshawa, Ontario) finished ninth (15:25.12).
In the 800 preliminaries, sophomore Richard Jones (Wellington, New Zealand) placed fourth (1:54.18). Also in preliminary action, junior Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland) finished third in the 1,000 meters (2:29.01).
In the women's 5,000 meters, senior Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) placed eighth in a time of 17:25.40. In preliminary action, junior Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) placed first in the 800 meters (2:13.59) and sophomore Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) was fifth (2:53.06) in the 1,000 meters. The Friars will return to action at the final day of the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday, February 22.
