The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the BIG EAST Championships on Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18 in Akron, Ohio. Leading the way for the women's team was graduate Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England) who captured first place in the 5,000 meters. The men's team was led by senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) and junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) who won the 3,000 meter and mile run, respectively.

Hoban won the 5,000 in a time of 16:16.67 a full nine seconds ahead of the next finisher. The women had two more top ten finishers in the 5,000 with sophomores Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) finishing fifth place at 16:34.91 and Katie DiCamillo (Garden City South, N.Y.) taking sixth with a time of 16:36.76. Hoban also took home a second place finish in the 3,000 meter in a time of 9:29.47.

Fagan won the 3,000 in a time of 8:05.26 marking the second straight year he has taken first in the event. Smith also captured the mile for the second straight year finishing this race in 4:04.13. Junior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) was solid in the 5,000 finishing in 14:19.63, good for fifth place.
 

 

Both the men's and women's team finished second in the distance medley in times of 9:42.43 and 11:49.65, respectively. The men's team finished the meet ninth out of twelve, while the women took home a seventh place finish out of 15 teams.
