Women's Track After Day 1 At The BIG EAST Indoor Championship

BIG EAST Indoor Championship at Syracuse Univ., Syracuse, N.Y. - Feb. 16-17, 2002 SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Providence College women's track team scored 11 points and is in 10th place of 14 teams after the first day of competition at the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday, February 16. The Friars' distance medley relay team scored eight of PC's 11 points with its second-place finish. Freshman Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland), junior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), freshman Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) and junior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) all ran the distance medley relay for the Friars. Sophomore Emily Tallen (Kingston, Ontario) scored the Friars' other three points on the first day of competition with her sixth-place finish (17:35.13) in the 5,000 meters. Sophomore Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) placed 10th (17:47.07) in the 5,000 meters. O'Shea ran the seventh fastest time in the 1,000 meters (2:55.02). She will run in the finals of the 1,000 on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
