Women's Track Competes At New England Challenge Cup Finals
PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WOMEN'S TRACK New England Challenge Cup Finals at Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H. - Jan. 22, 2000 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's track team scored 100.5 points and finished fourth of seven teams at the New England Challenge Cup Finals at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. on Saturday, January 22. The Friars were led by freshman Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), freshman Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland), sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) and sophomore Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.). McGettigan won the 1,000 meters (2:55.21) and Cappello earned a first-place finish in the mile (4:59.36). With their first-place finishes, McGettigan and Cappello each qualified for the ECAC Championship. In addition, O'Shea won the 800 meter race in a time of 2:17.87 and Shearman captured the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:04.38. Both runners qualified for the New England Championship with their victories. PC's distance medley relay team of sophomore Kathryn Casserly (Galway, Ireland), junior Joan Bohlke (Old Saybrook, Conn.), senior Dana Ostrander (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Cappello finished first in a time of 12:16.97 and qualified for the ECAC Championship. TEAM RESULTS: 1. Yale 191, 2. Maine 132, 3. New Hampshire 110, 4. Providence 100.5, 5. Central Connecticut 90, 6. Sacred Heart 32.5, 7. Holy Cross 24.
