KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the URI Sorlein Memorial Indoor Classic on Saturday, January 20. The Friar men's squad was led by All-America junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand), who captured the 1,000 meters, while sophomore Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) led the women's squad with a first place finish in the 3,000 meters.

Smith ran the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:25.45. Sophomore Charlie Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) took first place in the 400 meters with a time of 50.27. Senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) captured first in the Mile (4:06.64). Freshman Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) rounded out the men's first place finishers with a time of 1:55.69 in the 800 meters.

DiCamillo ran the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:54.00 ahead of teammates sophomore Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) (10:00.46) and junior Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ont.) (10:01.23) who took second and third place, respectively. Graduate Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England) won the Mile run in a time of 4:57.23.
 

 

Both the men's (7:49.10) and women's (9:24.39) `A' teams captured first in the 4x800 meter relay.

Both the men's and women's teams are back in action on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University.
