New England Challenge Cup at Brown, Providence - Jan. 20, 2001
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's track team scored 80 points and finished third of 10 teams at the New England Challenge Cup at Brown University in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, January 20.
The Friars were led by senior Francine Darroch (Cambridge, Ontario), sophomore Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) and sophomore Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland). Darroch captured the mile in a time of 5:06.00, McGettigan won the 800 meter title in a time of 2:13.63 and O'Shea earned a victory in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:57.03. Darroch qualified for the BIG EAST Championship, while O'Shea and McGettigan qualified for the ECAC Championship.
PC junior Kathryn Casserly (Galway, Ireland) and freshman Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) each earned a second-place finish and qualified for the ECAC Championship. Casserly placed second in the 1,000 meters (2:57.31) and Cappello finished second in the 3,000 meters (9:57.69).
