KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College Men's and Women's Indoor Track teams competed in the URI Sorlein Track Invitational on Saturday, January 19 in Kingston, R.I. The men captured six top-five place finishes and the women recorded five top-five finishes at the meet.

The Friar men were lead by junior Richie Yeates (Dublin, Ireland), sophomore Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand), and senior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) who all captured a first-place finish at the meet. Yeates won the Mile Run with a time of 4:17.40. Sophomore Mike Anderson (Ajax, Ont.) finished eighth in the same race with a time of 4:25.52, giving Providence two top-ten finishers in the mile run. McLaren took first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:52.22. Junior Nick Berlutti (Westwood, Mass.) finished in third place with a time of 1:56.43. Haji grabbed first in the 3000 Meter Run, recording a time of 8:39.63 in the race. Junior Ben Saviet (Sutton, Mass.) placed sixth in the 3000m with a time of 9:04.52. The men placed sixth overall in the meet, scoring 55 points.

The Providence College Men's 4x800m Relay team placed first with a time of 7:47.58, while the women took second in the 4x800m Relay with a time of 9:34.03.

The Friar women were lead by junior Danette Doetzel (Mackland, Sask.) and sophomore Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine). Doetzel placed first in the 3000m run with a time of 9:39:83 and Douglas won the mile run with a time of 4:57.94. Sophomore Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland) took second in the mile run in a time of 5:03.05 and senior Michele Childs (Cameron, Ontario) placed second in the 3000m run with a time of 9:56.47. Junior Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) took fifth place in the 800m run with a time of 2:19.74. The women placed fourth overall in the meet, scoring 63 points.

 

 

Providence College returns to action this weekend, January 25-26, at Boston University when they compete in the Terrier Invitational in Boston, Mass. The meet is scheduled to start at noon.
