Women's Track Competes At New England Challenge Cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's indoor track team competed at the New England Challenge Cup at Brown University on Sunday, January 16. The Friars were paced by two first-place finishes, including Deirdre Byrne (Wicklow, Ireland), who finished first in the mile in a time of 4:51.27. Byrne qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with her time. Providence's other first-place came in the distance medley relay as Roisin Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), Katie Boyle (Providence, R.I.), Megan Fanning (South Windsor, Conn.) and Byrne combined to run a time of 12:22.17. In addition, Providence had two second-place finishes. Freshman Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ontario) was a runner-up in the 3,000 meters, recording a time of 10:29.88. Quinn also placed second and qualified for the BIG EAST Championships as she ran a time of 2:16.76 in the 800 meters.
