Women's Tennis Signs Three Student-Athletes During Early Period

Dec. 14, 2011

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College tennis team has finished an active fall recruiting season with the signing of three impressive local players. Alana Prinos (Foxborough, Mass.), Hannah Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Ali Sullivan (Needham, Mass.) have all signed a National Letter of Intent and will be joining the Friars in the fall of 2012. All three players come from hometowns within an hour of Providence and have the potential to provide a strong boost to the rapidly improving program.

"We are very excited about these players for several reasons," Head Coach Kyle LaBranche said. "Not only are each of these three players very talented, but it is really nice to be bringing in student-athletes who are from the area. Word is spreading locally about the continued improvements and quality of our program, so it's exciting to get some of the top talent to stay home and compete for us."

Prinos is on pace to be this year's valedictorian at Foxborough High School. She has played No. 1 singles for the tennis team during each of her four years at Foxborough and is a three-time captain. She is a two-time MIAA South Section Champion and reached the MIAA State Final last year. She has achieved an impressive 4-star ranking on tennisrecruiting.net, which lists her fourth in New England for the Class of 2012. Prinos also is actively involved in NHS, SADD, Student Council, Best Buddies and her school concert choir. She is the eldest daughter of Mary Ann and Peter Prinos and has three younger sisters, Emma, Diana, and Sophia.

"Alana is one of the highest-ranked players we have ever signed here at Providence," LaBranche said. "We look forward to watching her flourish in the collegiate ranks, as we expect her to make an immediate impact on our team."

Zangari has played No. 1 singles for four years at North Kingstown High School, and this fall she capped off her impressive high school career by winning the 2011 Rhode Island Interscholastic League Girls Singles State Championship. She was named captain of the team in her junior and senior seasons and earned All-State and team MVP honors all four years. Zangari also is an honors student and competes on her high school track team. She is the daughter of Dana and Chris Zangari, and the oldest of four children.

"It's great to be adding the RI State Champ to our roster," LaBranche said. "I have worked with Hannah before and she has a great work ethic. She is a very athletic player with a tough mentality and passion for the game that will allow her to improve at the next level."

Sullivan has played No. 1 singles each of her seasons at Needham High School. Sullivan also has been named captain for her upcoming senior season and earned the team's MVP and Sportsmanship awards for the past three years. She is an honors student and a member of the varsity soccer team. She also is the Needham High School Book Award recipient for academic excellence and leadership abilities and participates in a variety of community service organizations. She is the daughter of Brian and Joanne Sullivan and sister to Brian Jr., Jeffrey, Christopher and Kelly.

"Ali is another strong, local talent, who we were actively recruiting for the last two years," LaBranche said. "We are looking forward to her arrival on campus and continuing to move our program forward. I couldn't be happier with this recruiting class, not only for their ability, but also because of the types of personalities they'll bring to the team. They will certainly be a great compliment to the many talented players we already have on the roster."
