Women's Tennis Competes at Eastern Collegiate Championships
Sept. 23, 2001 West Point, N.Y. - The No. 2 doubles team of Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) and Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) advanced to quaterfinal round of the Eastern Collegiate Tennis Championships with an 8-3 win over Alyssa Haddad and Andrea Suriano of Fairfield, on Saturday, September 22. In the quarterfinal round, Gilbride/Rodger fell, 8-5, to Pam Chavez and Lyndsey Nott of Army. Senior Kate Lafayette (Norwich, Conn.) also won her first round match, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinals. At No. 1 singles, fourth-seeded senior Brooke Rubin (Cranston, R.I.) fell in the round of 16 (7-5, 7-5). In the consolation round, Rubin advanced to the semifinals, before being defeated, in three sets by Milena Matijevic of Niagara. Erin Haley posted a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over Joanna Kahn of Vermont to reach the semifinals of the consolation round. The No. 1 doubles team of freshmen Lindsey Chritensen (Northboro, Mass.) and Elana Stayer (Portland, Ore.) made it to the finals of the consolation round with an 8-5 victory over Colleen Carey and Kendra Daigler.
