Women's Tennis Falls to Seton Hall, 7-0
March 3, 2003 The Providence College Friars tennis team was defeated by the Seton Hall Pirates,7-0, on Saturday, March 1, in Providence, R.I. In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) lost to Kim Barfuss, 6-0, 6-2, while PC's No. 2, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) fell to Emelie Akerbrant in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. PC's No. 3, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) was defeated by Lorell Zamot, 6-2, 6-2. Providence's No. 4, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) fell to Vivi Figueroa, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) playing in the No. 5 slot for Providence was defeated by Lara Spagnuolo, 6-1, 6-3. In the final singles slot PC's No. 6 senior Katie Viola (South Hadley, Mass.) was defeated by Erin Burke, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles action, the No.1 team of Lapane and Bitetti fell to Barfuss and Zamot, 8-3, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Christensen was defeated by Akerbrant and Figueroa, 8-2. The Friars return to action on Saturday, March 29 as the travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. for a match against the University of Stony Brook at 1:00 p.m.
