The Providence College tennis team continued with their spring break matches in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, February 28 when they faced Mount Saint Mary's University and the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. The Friars suffered their first loss of the Florida trip when they fell to Mount Saint Mary's, 4-3. Providence rebounded later that day, defeating Puerto Rico, 5-4. The Friars are currently 4-2 overall.

In their first match of the day against Mount Saint Mary's, the Friars were led by senior Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.), junior Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.), and freshman Kim Betzner (Walpole, Mass.), each of who won in straight sets. PC put up a strong effort despite missing two of their top singles competitors who also combine for its No. 1 doubles duo. Freshman Avery Gibson (Fairfield, Iowa) and sophomore Dara Hawkins-Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio) missed Thursday's matches due to illness. Freshman Ayushi Sinha also played well for the Friars, but fell 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles position.

The Friars returned to action just hours later, earning a hard-fought victory over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. Gaining singles wins for the Friars were junior Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.), Ayushi Sinha, and Kim Betzner. Kate Lyons won her singles match 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to win the deciding point in the Friars' victory. Earning the only doubles victory of PC's match against Puerto Rico-Mayaguez was the duo of Sinha and Hawkins-Hodgson, who defeated Marimar Gonzalez and Alexandra Escallera, 8-5.

Providence competes in its final match in Florida on Saturday, March 1 when they take on La Salle University at noon.
