The Providence College tennis team competed at the New England Tennis Championships in Fairfield, Conn. on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12. The Friars combined for 31 points over the weekend, finishing sixth out of eight teams. In-state rival, University of Rhode Island, placed first at the Championships, topping all teams with 79 points.

The Friars' top finishes on the weekend came on the doubles side of competition, earning two top-five finishes. In the No. 1 position, senior Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and sophomore Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India) combined for Providence's top place all weekend, earning six points from a 2-1 record and a third place finish. In the No. 2 spot, senior Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and junior Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) earned fifth place after going 2-1.

On the singles side, freshman Melanie Albert (Sanibel, Fla.) was the only Friar to earn a top-five finish. Albert finished the weekend with a 2-1 record, earning fifth place in the No. 4 singles spot.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, October 18 when they host Monmouth University at home in Providence, R.I. The Friars' final head-to-head match is set for a 10:30 a.m. start.
