Friars Show Their Endurance in Double Header

Oct. 1, 2017

Worcester, Mass. -

The Providence College Women's Tennis team played a doubleheader today, taking on Assumption and Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Friars split the day with a loss to Assumption followed by a victory against Holy Cross.

PC dropped the first bout to Assumption, 5-4, in a tightly contested match. The Friars got out to a strong start in doubles play, but came up short in singles. Aidan Epstein led the way in front of a large group of PC supporters, winning singles 3 with a score of 6-2, 6-0. On her performance, Epstein noted that she had a slow start, but said "I kept my focus really well and used the crowd to keep my energy up."

At Holy Cross, the Friars turned in a dominating performance, winning the condensed match 5-0. Epstein concluded her day with another quick victory in singles 3, while Risa Takenaka performed just as well with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in singles 1.

The doubleheader was the first such experience for the Friars, who noted that it came with unique challenges to overcome. Risa Takenaka said "there was definitely a lack of fuel at certain times, but I think it was awesome that we were able to push through it and end the fall season in a great way."

Katie Marvin had similar feelings, as the senior commented "It was really good to see the progress the team has made in just a few months this fall, and it just gets me more excited for the beginning of the spring season."

Women's Tennis concludes their fall season with Regionals beginning on October 18.
