WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Providence College women's tennis team swept Hartford, 7-0, on September 30 in West Hartford, Conn.

In doubles action, Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and Maria Clara Bernardez (Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico) defeated Abby Liu and Katina Zampas, 8-2, at No. 1. Karen Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Caitlin Foley (Holden, Mass.) defeated Ashley Harel and Jessica Galik, 8-0, at No. 3. Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss.) and Taylor Ahlborn (Minneapolis, Minn.) defeated Emily Willhoft and Christie Greenberg, 8-0.

In singles play, Aviles-Duron had a fantastic outing against Abby Liu, who previously played at Texas and is currently enrolled as a grad student at Hartford. Aviles-Duron won the first set, 6-4, and dominated the second set, 6-1.

At No. 2 and No. 3 singles, Bernardez and Ramirez played solid against good competition. Bernardez defeated Ashley Harel (6-2, 6-2) at No. 2, while Ramirez defeated Katina Zampas (6-3, 6-3). The Friars also posted straight-set victories at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Corder beat Jessica Galik (6-3, 6-0), Ahlborn defeated Emily Willhoft (6-0, 6-1) and Elisabetta Dewitt (Boulder, Colo.) finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Christie Greenberg.
