The Providence College tennis team moved to 2-1 on the fall season on Tuesday, September 23 when they defeated Holy Cross in Providence, R.I., 4-3. Senior Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) led Providence to the victory, as she was the only Friar with two wins on the day, succeeding in both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.

The afternoon started with singles matches with both teams coming away with three victories.  Aside from Rissolo, freshman standout Melanie Albert (Sanibel, Fla.) won in the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-2.  Jen Cusack was also successful for the Friars, winning in the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-2.

The winning point came down to the No. 1 doubles match, as Providence won in the No. 3 doubles position with Courtney Fuller (Newtown, Conn.) and Liz Gillis (Mattapoisett, Mass.), but fell in the No. 2 spot.  Sophomore Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India) and Rissolo came from behind to earn the winning point, 9-7. 

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, October 1 when they travel to Kingston, R.I. to take on intra-state rival the University of Rhode Island.  Matches are set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
