Providence Tennis Wins Season Finale Match Against Hartford

The Providence College tennis team competed in its final match of the season when it traveled to West Hartford, Conn. on Thursday, April 16 to take on the University of Hartford.  The Friars entered Thursday's match with an eight-game losing streak.  Led by senior Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Liz Gillis (Mattapoisett, Mass.), the Friars took a 5-2 victory in their season finale.

Both Gilroy and Gillis played strong in singles before moving on to earn doubles victories as well.  Gilroy was successful in the No. 2 singles position as she defeated Hartford's Kara Pease, 6-2, 6-1.  Gillis was dominant in the No. 5 position as she swept Margaret Potkay, 6-0, 6-0.

The Friars finished the spring season with a 3-10 mark, and were 6-12 overall.

3. Gillis/Fuller (PC) def. Ozdemir/Potkay, 8-1
