STORRS, CONN. -

The Providence College tennis team was defeated, 7-0, at UConn on Tuesday, April 11. The Friars were without junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) who plays at PC's No. 1 position in both singles and doubles.

In doubles, senior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) were defeated by Christine Burek and BreAnn Cheung at No. 1, 8-5. At No. 2, junior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) fell to Jessica Porter and Elizabeth Dibbs by a score of 8-2. Finally, at No. 3 doubles, sophomores Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) and Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) were defeated, 8-1, by Ashley Petruzzi and Alison Koch.

The Friars were swept in singles play as well, with Bitetti being defeated at No. 1 (6-3, 7-5), Rissolo at No. 2 (7-6, 6-1), Kenaga at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0), Lyons at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0), Gilroy at No. 5 (6-3, 6-3) and junior Therese Griffin (Louisville, Ky.) at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1). The Friars (5-11) return to action on Monday, April 17, when they host Fairfield at 3:00 p.m.
