Women's Tennis Falls To Fordham, 6-1

The Providence College Friars tennis team was defeated by Fordham University, 6-1, on Thursday, April 10, in Providence, R.I.
In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) was defeated by Xerli Woo, 6-3, 6-2, while PC's No. 2, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was defeated by Christina Papa in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. PC's No. 3, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) picked up the lone Friar win by defeating Morgan Brinley, 6-2, 6-2. Providence's No. 4, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) was defeated by Christina Leavenworth, 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) playing in the No. 5 slot for Providence was defeated by Danielle Spigner in another hard fought match, 6-4, 7-5. In the final singles slot PC's No. 6 junior Trisha Pollock (York, Maine) was defeated by Candice Lee, 7-6, 6-4.
The Friars were swept in doubles action, as the No.1 team of Lapane and Bitetti fell to Woo and Spigner, 8-4, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Roger were defeated by Brinley and Papa, 8-4. In the final match of the day the No. 3 doubles team of Christensen and Katie Viola (South Hadley, Mass.) were defeated by Leavenworth and Lee, 8-6.
The Friars return to action on Friday, April 11 as the travel to East Brunswick, New Jersey for a match against Rutgers University at 2:00 p.m.
