FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Providence College women's tennis team traveled to Fairfield, Conn. on Monday, April 9 to match up against the Fairfield Stags. The Friars prevailed, edging the Stags, 4-3. In doubles action, senior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) were the only victorious duo as they defeated Gretchen Amberg and Gabriela Davila, 8-4 at third doubles. In singles action, Providence's Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) claimed a victory at the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Lauren Bonnano, 6-4, 6-1. Providence also swept the bottom half of the singles bracket, with freshman Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) winning at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-2 over Amberg, junior Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) defeating Courtney Price, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, and Cusack claiming her second victory on the day at No. 6 over Courtney Taylor (6-1, 6-4). With the win, Providence improves to 3-7 in the spring, 7-8 overall. Next up, the Friars will host the University of Connecticut today, April 10, at 3:00 p.m.
