Women's Tennis Defeated By UConn, 5-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's tennis was defeated, 5-2, by the University of Connecticut on Tuesday, April 9 in Providence, R.I. The loss ended PC's three-match winning streak.
Providence senior Brooke Rubin (Cranston, R.I.) defeated UConn's Trinell Russel (Voorheesville, N.Y.), 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while freshman Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles to lead the Friars. Rubin tied a Providence College single season victory total with 23 wins, which she set during the 1999-00 when she posted a 23-10-1 record at the No. 1 position. Rubin improved to 23-5 overall and remained undefeated in the spring season with a 12-0 mark.
UConn, which improved to 12-5 overall, captured two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches en route to the win. The Friars dropped to 10-8 overall and 6-6 in the spring season.
PC completes the season on Saturday, April 13 with a match at St. John's.
