Women's Tennis Falls To New Hampshire, 5-2

The Providence College Friars tennis team was defeated by New Hampshire, 5-2, on Sunday, April 6, in Providence, R.I. In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) was defeated by Lindsey Johnson, 6-3, 6-2, while PC's No. 2, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was defeated by Hallie Erickson, 6-4, 6-4. PC's No. 3, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) earned one of the Friars' two points on the day by defeating Lensey Dixon, 6-4, 6-1. Providence's No. 4, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) was defeated by Jenny Witter in a hard fought match, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6. Sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) playing in the No. 5 slot for Providence defeated Debbie King, 7-6, 6-4. In the final singles slot PC's No. 6 junior Trisha Pollock (York, Maine) was defeated by Jess Pasay, 6-2, 6-0. The Friars were swept in doubles action, as the No.1 team of Lapane and Bitetti fell to Johnson and Erickson, 8-4, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Christensen also fell, 8-4, to Dixon and Witter. In the final match of the day the No. 3 doubles team of Rodger and Katie Viola (South Hadley, Mass.) were defeated by King and Pasay, 8-1. The Friars return to action on Wednesday, April 9 as they Byrant in Providence, R.I. at 3:00 p.m.
