PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team was defeated by Quinnipiac University, 5-2, on April 4 at the Providence College Tennis Courts in Providence, R.I. Sophomore Maria Clara Bernardez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and freshman Karen Ramirez (San Juan, P.R.) each won their singles matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots, respectively.
In No. 1 singles, Bernardez swept her match, 7-5 and 6-4, while Ramirez was pushed to three sets in the No. 3 singles match. Ramirez took the first set, 7-5, but dropped the second set, 3-6. Ramirez battled back to take the third and deciding set, 10-5.
In doubles play, freshman Alli Carnall (Hatfield, Mass.) and Ramirez won their No. 3 doubles match by an 8-4 score.
The Friars will travel to Villanova for their next match on Saturday, April 7. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
