Queens, N.Y. - The Providence women's tennis team defeated the Manhattan Jaspers, 4-3 on Sunday, April 1 in Queens, N.Y. There were strong performances put forth by all Friars. Freshmen Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) both took their opponents to three sets. After each lost their respective first sets, they both came back to win their second two to help the Friars to victory. Sophomores Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) played a hard fought match at second doubles, ultimately defeating their Jasper opponents, 9-8. With the win, the Friars are 2-7 on the spring, 6-8 overall. The Friars' home match vs. Connecticut scheduled for today, April 2 has been postponed due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. Next up, the Friars head to Fairfield, Conn. to match up against the Fairfield Stags on Monday, April 9. Action is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
