HARTFORD, CONN. - The Providence tennis team traveled to the University of Hartford on Tuesday, March 27 to match up against the Hartford Hawks. Providence earned their first win of the spring season by defeating the Hawks, 6-1. There was a strong effort put forth on all accounts as many Friars stepped up and performed well in unfamiliar positions. Freshman Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) played at No. 2 singles and played a hard fought match before defeating her Hartford opponent, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Meghan O'Keefe (Wynantskill, N.Y.) made her first collegiate appearance at the No. 6 singles spot, defeating her opponent, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) and sophomore Amy McDevitt (East Greenwich, R.I.) teamed up at No. 1 doubles where they defeated their Hartford opponents, 8-1. With the win, the Friars improve to 1-7 in the spring, 5-8 overall. Next up, the Friars match up against Manhattan in Riverdale, N.Y. on Sunday, April 1. The match is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
