PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team fell to BIG EAST foe Georgetown (7-0) on March 22 and at Navy (6-1) on March 23. The Friars traveled to Washington, D.C. and Annapolis, Md. for the matches. With the losses, Providence now holds a 4-9 record overall this season.
The Friars opened the weekend on March 22 in Washington, D.C. against the Hoyas with a 7-0 loss. Providence saw the lone win of the day come in doubles play, where freshmen Jennifer DeLuca (Riverside, Conn.) and Amanda Pitocco (Warwick, R.I.) defeated Sophie Panarese and Madeline Foley, 8-6, in the No. 3 position.
With the win, DeLuca and Pitocco held a 3-1 record together prior to the loss at Navy the following day. Providence now holds a 0-2 mark against BIG EAST opponents.
Providence was then defeated by Navy on Sunday, March 23 (6-1), with the lone point coming from Pitocco in singles action. Pitocco defeated Cassandra Fisbeck (6-3, 6-4) to improve her record in the No. 6 position to 2-0 on the season and 3-3 overall. Sophomore Alana Prinos (Foxborough, Mass.) forced her match against Sam Droop into a third set in a comeback effort that fell short. Prinos fell in the No. 2 position (6-2, 3-6, 6-0).
The Friars return to action with league play against St. John's. Providence will travel to New York, N.Y. to take on the Red Storm on Saturday, March 29 in a match set for noon.
