PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College women's tennis team fell 5-0 to NYIT on Sunday, March 2. The Friars' lone win on the day came in the No. 2 doubles position.
In doubles action, senior Maria Clara Bernardez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and sophomore Olivia Hogan (Gaithersburg, Md.) were defeated by Justina Krol and Gabriela Siembab in the No. 1 position, 8-3.
At the No. 2 doubles position, sophomores Alana Prinos (Foxborough, Mass.) and Hannah Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) toppled Sara Burinato and Rocio Benavent, 8-3. Freshmen Amanda Pitocco (Warwick, R.I.) and Jennifer DeLuca (Riverside, Conn.) were defeated, 8-1, by Melanie Benyadi and Alexandra Borgenhoff in the No. 3 doubles position.
The Friars fell in the No. 3, 4 and 5 single positions to close out the day. DeLuca competed at the No. 3 position, where she fell (6-0, 6-1), to Benyadi. Junior Karen Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) represented the Friars in the No. 4 position dropping the match (6-4, 6-0) to Borgenhoff. Zangari rounded out singles play in the No. 5 position with a loss to Siembab.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, March 8, when they play host to the Seton Hall Pirates in their first BIG EAST match of the season. The match is set to start at noon on Saturday.
