March 2, 2008

The Providence College women's tennis team wrapped up their Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla. with a 7-0 sweep over La Salle University. The Friars leave Florida going 4-1 over the trip and a 5-2 record overall.

The Friars welcomed back the duo of freshman Avery Gibson (Fairfield, Iowa) and sophomore Dara Hawkins-Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio) who missed Thursday's matches due to illness. The pair returned to Providence's No. 1 doubles spot just in time to earn an 8-6 victory over La Salle's Rachael Barnhart and Lauren Perry. Sophomore Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) and senior Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) teamed up in the No. 2 spot to earn an 8-0 win. The Friars took the No. 3 victory by default.

On the singles side of the day, junior Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.), freshmen Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India), Kim Betzner (Walpole, Mass.), and Ally Wegner (Morristown, N.J.) all earned victories. Providence also took the No. 3 and 6 singles spots by default.

The Friars return to action the weekend of March 7 through March 9 when they travel to West Point, N.Y. for matches against Seton Hall, Army, and Marist.
