Men's and Women's Tennis Open Spring Season

The Providence College women's tennis team opened the 2002 spring season with a 7-0 victory over Central Connecticut State University on Sunday, February 10.

The Friars swept all singles matches in straight sets, led by seniors Brooke Rubin (Cranston, R.I.) and Gina Vlasek (Atlanta, Ga.) who played at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Rubin defeated Eleanor Flower (6-0, 6-0), while Vlasek posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Heather McGaughan. Senior Erin Haley (Johnston, R.I.) and freshman Katy Bednar (Marblehead, Mass.) also recorded singles victories.

Rubin and Bednar combined to win at No. 1 doubles, while Vlasek and senior Katie Lafayette (Norwich, Conn.) were victorious at the No. 2 spot.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, February 17 when they travel to play Dartmouth at 2:00 p.m.
