PITTSBURGH, PA. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished competition at the 2004 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on February 29, 2004 in Pittsburgh, Pa. The men's team finished 18th in a field of 29 teams with 34 points, while the women's team finished 23rd in a field of 29 teams with 35 points. Johns Hopkins University won the men's team title with 437.5 points. Boston College took the women's team title with 566 points.

Freshman Anne Nemeth (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Katelyn Flynn (Sinking Spring, Pa.) were the only Friars to earn top-10 finishes at the championship. Nemeth led all PC swimmers with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.59. Flynn posted a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.29. Senior Bridget McKenna (Narragansett, R.I.) finished 14th in the 1,650-yard freestyle event with a time of 18:09.67. The 400-yard medley relay team comprised of freshman Carolyn Rider (Freehold, N.J.), Nemeth, Flynn and freshman Emily Corcoran (Haverhill, Mass.) placed 12th with a time of 4:07.48.
 

 

On the men's side, Providence scored in three relay events. Senior Bryan Flynn (Middletown, R.I.), freshman Jeff Vollero (Hamden, Conn.), sophomore Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) and senior Patrick Kavanagh (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished 13th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.57. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, freshman Andrew Zockoff (Dover, Mass.) teamed-up with Flynn, Brockman and Kavanagh for a 12th-place finish with a time of 7:12.53. The remaining relay that PC scored in was the 400-yard freestyle. Vollero, Brockman, Zockoff and Kavanagh placed 12th in a time of 3:14.82.
