The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Metropolitan Collegiate Championships on February 21-23 in Piscataway, N.J. The men's team finished fifth overall out of 17 teams, while the women earned a fourth-place finish among 19 teams.

The men's swimming and diving team finished fifth (251 points) out of 17 teams at the Metropolitan Collegiate Championships. The Friars' highest finish was in the 800 yard freestyle relay, as the team of freshman Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.), sophomore Matthew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.), freshman Frank LaMonaca (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Patrick Kavanagh (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished third with a time of 7:13.44. Senior Tom Darrow (Cranston, R.I.) earned the highest individual finish of the day for PC (fifth) in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:59.51. In all, Darrow made it to the finals in five events, including two relays. Providence had 38 swimmers qualify for the finals in 16 events including five relays. The Friars finished among the top-10 in 13 finals events.

The Providence College women's swimming and diving team finished fourth (379.50 points) out of 19 teams at the Metropolitan Collegiate Championships on February 21-23 in Piscataway, N.J. Junior Bridget McKenna (Narragansett, R.I.) led the Friars with a first-place individual finish in the 1,650 yard (mile) freestyle with a time of 18:05.00. McKenna also earned a fourth-place finish (5:17.03) in the 500 yard freestyle, an 11th-place finish (2:01.97) in the 200 yard freestyle and helped the 800 yard freestyle team to a fourth-place finish in a time of 8:21.23. Joining McKenna on the 800 relay team were freshman Jill Fortier (East Haddam, Conn.), freshman Lori Brezinsky (Bethlehem, Pa.) and senior Christina Cotter (Ballston Lake, N.Y.). Fortier also earned a second-place individual finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.22. Senior Kate Fuller (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned her best finish of the day in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.17. In the diving portion of the meet, sophomore Jamie Modon-Cohen (Yorktown, N.Y.) led the way with fourth-place finishes in the one-meter and three-meter competition. In the one-meter event, she accumulated 331.55 points and earned 333.25 points in the three-meter dive. Senior Mary Burke (Burr Ridge, Ill.) finished sixth in each event, accumulating 301.10 points in the one-meter dive and 301.30 points in the three-meter dive. Providence had 58 swimmers qualify the finals in 20 events, including five relays. Fourteen swimmers finished among the top-five in their respective events.
