Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Vermont, 192-107
Feb. 5, 2000 Providence, R.I....... The Providence College Friars defeated the University of Vermont, in both men's and women's swimming action, 178.50-95.50 and 192-107, respectively, on Saturday, February 6, at Taylor Natatorium.
Senior Kevin Reeder (Southbury, Conn.) had a outstanding meet for the black and white, posting wins in the 100 meter butterfly (1:02:00) and the 200 meter IM (2:21:75). Senior Joe Gesker (Herndon, Va.) also claimed a double victory in the 800 meter freestyle (9:27:12) and the 400 meter freestyle (4:31:58). The men's team now stands at 4-7 on the season, heading into the BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS February 17-19, in East Meadow, N.Y.
On the women's side, senior Meghan Robinson (Plano, Texas) captured the 200 meter backstroke (2:31:72) and the 100 meter backstroke (1:10:71). Freshman Amanda Pymm (Port Washington, N.Y.) paced the divers grabbing first place in the both 1-meter diving events, with scores of 186 and 168. Senior Karen Cardwell (Marietta, Ga.) finished strong in her last collegiate meet at Taylor Natatorium, finishing first in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:20:38) and the 200 meter breaststroke (2:54:85)
The women's team improves to 7-4 on the season, and will also return to action at the BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS, February 17-19. |
