PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Friars had a first place finisher in each event as they picked up their first victory of the season, 87-78, by defeating Mt. Saint Mary College on January 15 in Providence, R.I.

The meet began with Providence taking first place in the 200 meter medley relay. The team of junior Caitlin Driscoll (Fall River, Mass.), junior Heather Smith (New London, Conn.), freshman Chris Dorado (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and freshman Mariana Trilla (Belmont, Mass.) finished in a time of 2:22.62. The 800 meter freestyle was won by Providence junior Bridget McKenna (Narragansett, R.I.) with a time of 9:52.54. Senior Christina Cotter (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) finished first in the 200 meter freestyle (2:20.91), while senior Kate Fuller (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed first in the 50 meter freestyle (29.54). In the 200 meter individual medley, junior Katie Donovan finished first with a time of 2:41.75, while sophomore Alyssa Meleski (Southington, Conn.) placed first in the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:17.37. In the diving competition, Friar sophomore Jamie Modon-Cohen (Yorktown, N.Y.) and senior Mary Burke (Burr Ridge, Ill.) placed first and second with scores of 226.9 and 224.95, respectively. With their performances, Modon-Cohen and Burke have now qualified to compete at the ECAC Championships which will take place on February 27-March 1 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Friars now improve to 1-4 on the season and will next compete at Maine on Saturday, January 18 at noon.
