Women's Swimming And Diving Defeat Maine, 153.50-146.50
Jan. 22, 2000 Providence, R.I....... The Providence College women's swimming and diving team, defeated the University of Maine Black Bears 153.50-146.50, while the PC men fell to the Black Bears 178-113, on January 22, at PC's Taylor Natatorium. The women's meet was a battle throughout, with the Friar's quartet of Kate Fuller (Staten Island, N.Y.), Lauren DeGray (Wethersfield, Conn.), Karen Cardwell (Marietta, Ga.) and Lori Cosman (Newburgh, N.Y.) claiming victory in 200 meter freestyle relay, the meet's final event, to seal the victory. The Providence divers were the story of the afternoon, as freshman Amanda Pymm (Port Washington, N.Y.) claimed first place in the 3 meter diving and 1 meter diving. Freshman Mary Burke (Burr Ridge, Ill.), Monica Lucey (Reading, Mass.), and senior Andrea Liporace (Belle Meade, N.J.) all grabbed valuable points in the afternoon's diving events. The Providence men were led by junior Mike Frenza (Watertown, Conn.), who claimed victory in the 400 meter freestyle and the 200 meter freestyle. With the victory the Providence women improve to 4-1, while the men fall to 1-4. Both teams will return to action on January 25 at the University of New Hampshire at 5:00 p.m. |
