Providence Softball Releases 2018 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  The Providence College Softball team announced its 2018 schedule on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The Friars will play 52 games during the 2018 season, including four tournaments, 21 BIG EAST Conference games and 19 home games.

Providence will begin its season at the University of Central Florida “Friends of Jaclyn” Invitational in Sanford, Fla. from Feb. 9-11.  At the “Friends of Jaclyn” Invitational, the Friars will take on Illinois, University of North Florida, South Alabama, UCF and University of North Carolina. Last season, both UNC and Illinois qualified for the NCAA tournament. UNC went 40-21 and Illinois went 39-20.

The Friars will then play in their second tournament from Feb. 16-18 when they take part in the University of North Florida Osprey Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. Providence will play five games at the Osprey Tournament including South Dakota State, UNF, Canisius and Jacksonville twice.

Over spring break, Providence will take part into two tournaments. Providence will first take part in the Louisville Slugger Tournament, hosted by Pacific University, in Stockton, Cal. from March. 2-4. Providence will take on the San Jose State twice, Pacific twice, and Wagner. San Jose State qualified for the Los Angeles Regional last year after finishing 37-19 on the season.

In between tournaments, Providence will play a double header against CSU-Northridge on March 6.

The Friars will wrap up their tournament play at the LMU Tournament in Los Angeles, Cal. on March 9-10. At this final tournament, the Friars will face Loyola Marymount, Florida Gulf Coast twice, Harvard and Southern Utah.

The Friars will play Hartford, URI, Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Boston College, Bryant, Harvard, Brown, Boston University, and Central Connecticut as their non-conference games following the completion of the Florida tournaments.

This season, Providence welcomes Georgetown (March 24-25), Villanova (April 14-15), 2017 BIG EAST runner-up St. John’s (April 28-29) and 2017 BIG EAST Champions DePaul (May 5-6) for its home BIG EAST opponents.

The Friars will travel to Creighton (March 28-29), Seton Hall (April 7-8), and Butler (April 21-22) for their away BIG EAST games.  

The BIG EAST Championships will be held at DePaul University in Rosemont, Ill. from May 12-13.
