PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Providence College head softball coach Kerri Jacklets announced today (July 10, 2012) that Heather Rush has joined her coaching staff as an assistant. Rush will serve as the top assistant on staff, with an emphasis on pitching and outfield play.
"I am thrilled to have Heather on staff here at Providence College," Jacklets said. "She has displayed a pure passion for our game and she is excited to get to work with our student-athletes. She will fill the role of first assistant for the program, specializing in pitching and outfield play. She will play a critical role in our overall development of our pitching staff, aiming to create consistency within our powerhouse conference. Coach Rush will also oversee day-to-day operations in the softball office and will work to improve the overall skill level of each member of the team. She continues to play in the Women's Class A Majors Division and will pitch during our practices here at Providence to help improve game performance."
Rush is a 2011 graduate of the University of Houston-Clear Lake in Houston, Texas. While at Houston, she earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology. Rush played collegiately at Alvin Community College, and also competed at Troy University and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Rush was named Alvin's Most Valuable Player and twice earned Region 14 Pitcher of the Week honors in 2006. That same year, she help Alvin Community College advance to the Region 14 Regional Tournament. She set a single-season school record for innings pitched (256) and tied Alvin's single-season record for wins (22).
She has gained collegiate coaching experience at Drexel University (2011-12), Chestnut Hill College (2011-12), West Chester University (2011) and Alvin Community College (2008-10). Rush also has worked numerous camps and clinics at Drexel University, University of Texas, Moravian, West Chester, Villanova, Troy, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Alvin Community College.
