PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College athletics director Bob Driscoll announced on Monday, June 12 that Laura Taylor has been hired as a full-time assistant softball coach. Taylor served as acting assistant coach last season.

Taylor, who joined the PC softball program in February 2006, helped lead the Friars to a 29-19-1 overall record, including an 11-11 mark in the BIG EAST, which was good for sixth-place in the league. The 11 BIG EAST wins were the most by a Friar squad since 1995. In addition, the Friars earned a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 1996. A former Seton Hall standout and the 2005 BIG EAST Player of the Year,

Taylor finished her playing career as the top power hitter in school history, as well as one of the top sluggers in NCAA history. Seton Hall's all-time leader in home runs, Taylor totaled 59 round trippers over her four year career, also one of the top-10 figures in NCAA history. In addition, she totaled 180 hits and a school-record 160 RBI. A three-time All-BIG EAST selection, she also was a three-time All-Northeast Region choice.
