College Sports Madness Softball named Providence freshman outfielder Kiarra Baldassari (Denviille, N.J.) its BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and tabbed Baldassari, sophomore infielder Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) and senior outfielder Jessie Bryant (Malborough, Mass.) as Second Team All-BIG EAST selections.
Baldassari started in all 52 games as a freshman in centerfield. In a team-high 182 at bats, she recorded a .341 batting average, 42 runs and 10 RBI. Baldassari also finished in the BIG EAST’s top-10 in runs scored (sixth), hits (sixth, 62), stolen bases (third, 22), at bats (fourth), and steal attempts (third, 25).
Dederick started in all 52 games this season at first base. She recorded a team-high in RBI (36), doubles (15), on-base percentage (.424) and walks (19). Dederick also finished fifth in the BIG EAST in doubles.
Bryant competed in all 52 games, while recording 51 starts in her senior year. She recorded a .344 batting average (second on the team), while tallying a team-high in homeruns (seven), slugging (.576), and total bases (87).
