Softball Has Three Players Earn All-BIG EAST Selections

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST announced regular season awards for softball on Wednesday, May 10. Providence had three players earn All-BIG EAST honors. Senior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.), junior Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) and sophomore Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) were all named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. These are the most All-BIG EAST selections for Providence since 2010.

Lundstrom was named to the catcher position on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. This is the second time in Lundstrom’s career that she has been selected to a BIG EAST team as she was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in 2015. In 21 BIG EAST games, Lundstrom batted .352 with 20 runs scored, 19 hits, four doubles, six home runs, 18 RBI, and had a slugging percentage of .759. This season, Lundstrom tied the Providence single season records for home runs (12) and set the record for runs scored (47). For her career, Lundstrom ranks first in slugging percentage (.622), second in home runs (26), fourth in batting average (.336) and fifth in runs (106).

Rurka was named to the first base position on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. This is Rurka’s first All-BIG EAST selection. In BIG EAST play, Rurka batted .388 with 19 hits, four doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI. Rurka ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in batting average and fourth in RBI.

Lee was named to one of the outfield positions on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. This is Lee’s second All-BIG EAST selection as she was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in 2016. Lee batted .333 with 22 runs scored, 19 hits, five doubles, and six RBI in BIG EAST play this year. Lee ranked second in the BIG EAST for runs scored and fourth in hits. This season, Lee tied for second for total runs scored (43) and second for hits (65).
